Peggy Wingate

She is the founding Director and Artistic Director of Goldsboro Ballet. She was the first recipient of the Excellence in Arts Award from the Wayne County Arts Council. Mrs. Wingate was the first to receive a Performing Arts Grass Roots Grant in Wayne County. She began her training with the Greenville Civic Ballet in South Carolina under the Directorship of Doris S McClellan. She received an Arts institute Certificate from UNC Chapel Hill in 1986 and has furthered her teaching training under the Cecchetti Council of America, the University of Buffalo and Kent State.
Mrs. Wingate completed her M.ed from the University of Virginia. In 1977 Mrs. Wingate began teaching at the Herman Park Center until 1980 when she opened the Goldsboro School of Ballet. She founded Goldsboro Civic Ballet in 1982 with the support of local businesses. She worked with the Wayne County Arts Council in developing the performing Arts in Wayne County throughout the years.
She has been the forerunner of bringing in guest artist such as Brad Parquette, Patrick Corbin, Ellie Lazar, Galina Panova, Patti Weeks, Joe Carow, Alan Arnette, and many more to our local dancers. Mrs. Wingate was the first to offer local schools a synopsis performance to help understand and enjoy Ballet. She helped plan the first Arts festival for teachers throughout NC at the NCSA. Mrs. Wingate Directed and the Ballets; Beauty and the Beast, Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Carnival of the Animals, Peter and the Wolf, Alice in Wonderland and the Nutcracker.
